Jaroslav Drazil | Distance, 2025

Oil and acrylic on canvas

Description

214 × 195 cm with frame included

Unique work

Distance reflects on the quiet intensity of long-distance relationships — on the longing for closeness within a space shaped by physical absence. The two figures appear separated, yet invisibly connected. Between them lies not merely distance, but an emotional space filled with memory, projection, and hope.

The painting understands intimacy as something beyond physical presence. It speaks of a connection that exists outside of time, place, and touch — a form of closeness that continues to live internally, even when people are far apart. The contrasting visual worlds within the composition resemble two states of consciousness: dream and reality, day and night, memory and the present moment.

The atmosphere of the work recalls those fragile moments between sleep and wakefulness, where thoughts, desires, and loved ones seem especially close. Distance speaks about romantic love, but also about the fragility of human connection — about the attempt to remain emotionally bound despite separation.

The painting invites the viewer to understand distance not only as loss, but also as a space of inner encounter, where love may become quieter, yet at the same time deeper.
