Under the Sea invites viewers into Ghone's colorful underwater imagination, inspired by one of his favorite storybooks, Disney's Finding Dory. Fascinated by Dory and the endless blue ocean she calls home, Ghone set out to create his own vibrant seascape filled with movement, light, and wonder.
For this artwork, Ghone specifically requested a circular canvas, choosing it for its resemblance to a window into the ocean. He also selected a turquoise background, establishing the tranquil foundation of the sea before beginning to paint.
Working from different angles around the circular canvas, Ghone independently chose a palette of blue tones—including deep blue, sky blue, and light green—to build layers of water and depth. Using a small roller, he experimented with texture, attempting to create the appearance of floating bubbles. He then added delicate sprays of water and shimmering drops of gold, capturing the way sunlight dances across the ocean's surface.
The circular composition has no beginning or end, echoing the endless rhythm of the sea. Rich layers of blues blend with subtle green tones, while sparkling golden accents bring warmth and life to the underwater world.
Under the Sea reflects Ghone's growing confidence in choosing his own materials, colors, and techniques. Through simple gestures and intuitive mark-making, he transforms a favorite childhood story into an abstract expression of curiosity, imagination, and the peaceful beauty of the ocean.
