In her work, Jahna Dahms examines the continuity of form as a cultural phenomenon.

The focus is on the question of how visual and structural principles continue over time and recur in contemporary material culture.In the series of works entitled RELICS, industrial packaging forms become the starting point for an archaeological examination of the present. These are anonymous artefacts that reveal an unconscious similarity to vessels, reliquaries and sacred objects from earlier civilisations. Through systematisation, classification and gilding with 24-carat gold leaf, they are placed in a long tradition of human design.

RELICS reflects on the permanence of gold as a cultural constant and on its enduring function as a language of worship and remembrance that has persisted for centuries.

Jahna Dahms untersucht in ihrer Arbeit die Kontinuität der Form als kulturelles Phänomen.

Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, wie sich visuelle und strukturelle Prinzipien über Zeiträume hinweg fortsetzen und in der materiellen Kultur der Gegenwart wiederkehren. In der Werkreihe RELICS werden industrielle Verpackungsformen zum Ausgangspunkt einer archäologischen Betrachtung der Gegenwart. Es handelt sich um anonyme Artefakte, die eine unbewusste Nähe zu Gefäßen, Reliquiaren und sakralen Objekten früherer Zivilisationen erkennen lassen.

Durch Systematisierung, Zuordnung und die Vergoldung mit 24-karätigem Blattgold werden sie in eine lange Traditionslinie menschlicher Formgebung eingeordnet. RELICS reflektiert über die Beständigkeit des Goldes als kulturelle Konstante und über seine fortdauernde Funktion als Sprache der Verehrung und Erinnerung, die seit Jahrtausenden fortbesteht.
