In the chaos of the scramble, individual identity collapses into collective motion; the men and horses fold into one another until it is impossible to say where one ends and the next begins. This is what tradition does. Each man folds into it, and in doing so, becomes part of something that outlasts him.

Todd Antony is a highly acclaimed photographer whose practice over the last decade has focused on seeking out individuals and communities that exist just outside the familiar frame. His work explores the extraordinary resilience, identity, and ritual found within seemingly ordinary lives, aiming to fold these narratives into the broader human conversation. Antony’s practice is defined by a sophisticated blend of documentary observation and a considered, cinematic approach to color, lighting, and atmosphere. Through a style he describes as "quiet advocacy," he utilizes photography to honor the reality of his subjects while elevating their emotional pulse, fostering an empathetic dialogue between the viewer and the subject.
In his series Buzkashi, Antony captures the fierce, ancient sport of Tajikistan—a nomadic horse culture tradition where men and horses collide in a brutal contest of strength and horsemanship. Describing the scene as one of "storm and thrash," Antony likens the chaotic scrum of riders to a mythic cavalry charge untethered from time. His photographs focus on the chapandaz (riders of extraordinary skill) as they hurl themselves into a churning mass of hooves and dust to seize the buz (a goat carcass). The work sustains a visual tension that echoes the charge of empires and stories older than modern borders, capturing victory as a moment of clear sky snatched from chaos.
Antony’s career is marked by prestigious international accolades, including being a two-time finalist for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize (2021, 2025) and being named Sports Photographer of the Year at the 2025 International Photography Awards (IPA). He is a multiple Gold winner at the AOP Awards (UK) across Documentary, Portrait, and Lifestyle categories. His work has been exhibited at high-profile venues such as the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Festival de Fotografia Bergamo, and Centquatre-Paris. Beyond his artistic achievements, Antony is recognized for his advocacy, having presented talks to UN members regarding his long-term projects on marginalized communities.
