Beschreibung
Frozen August is a photographic exploration of grief that remained unspoken for more than thirty years. In 1990, I lost my brother suddenly. The grief never disappeared; it stayed silent, held within the body and family.
Between 2021 and 2023, I created a series of images in which body and nature become landscapes of mourning. Through shadows, skin, light and fragments of landscape, the work reflects an inner state rather than specific events. The images explore how loss lingers, transforms and subtly shapes life, and how grief is carried in both the body and the spaces around us.
Frozen August gives form to something that remained locked in silence for decades. Making these images opened a space where that silence could soften and where vulnerability and strength coexist. The work invites viewers into a place of stillness, where personal memory may resonate with their own unspoken experiences of loss.
