Sergei Stroitelev ist ein investigativer Dokumentarfotograf und bildender Künstler, der an der Gelehrten-Journalistenschule in St. Petersburg sowie der dänischen Medien- und Journalistenhochschule (DMJX) studierte. Er ist ein Künstler, der stets Fragen nach sozialer Stigmatisierung, marginalisierten Identitäten und den Bruchlinien politischer und körperlicher Krisen aufwirft, basierend auf kollaborativer Porträtfotografie und visueller Reportage.

Seine neueste Werkserie „Behind The Surface Of Addiction“ (2025 – fortlaufend) ist eine tiefgründige visuelle Untersuchung über das Leben drogenabhängiger Frauen an den Berliner Brennpunkten Leopoldplatz und Kottbusser Tor. Ausgehend von seiner aktuellen Praxis – in der er gemeinsam mit den betroffenen Frauen deren persönliche Gegenstände zu metaphorischen Stillleben arrangiert und diese mit aufgezeichneten Lebensgeschichten kombiniert – versucht der Künstler, die versteckte Würde und den täglichen Überlebenskampf inmitten von Obdachlosigkeit und crackabhängigen Strukturen in unsere Realität zu holen. Die harte, oft stereotype Wahrnehmung von Sucht wird kontinuierlich mit intimen Einblicken in persönliche Erinnerungen und familiäre Beziehungen konfrontiert. Er beschreibt seine Arbeit als ein Medium, das über die traditionelle Reportage hinausgeht und durch den intensiven Austausch mit den Protagonistinnen eine fast therapeutische Ebene erreicht.

Stroitelev blickt auf eine weitreichende internationale Karriere zurück und ist mehrfacher Preisträger renommierter Auszeichnungen, darunter der Kolga Tbilisi Photo Award, Pictures of the Year International (POYi) sowie der Luis-Valtueña-Humanitätsfotopreis. Seine Arbeiten und visuellen Tagebücher wurden weltweit publiziert und ausgestellt – unter anderem in Zusammenarbeit mit Medien wie VICE, De Volkskrant und Organisationen wie Ärzte der Welt und dem Roten Kreuz.
