SOLILOQUY 1 are a large-format drawing on black paper created using mixed media.
This work oscillates between realism and its deconstruction. The depiction of a figurative scene draws the viewer in through realistic elements, yet simultaneously dissolves that focus. This creates a play on the ambivalence of visibility, sharpening the viewer’s perception.
I place papers treated with acrylic or ink in direct contrast to the drawing. White paper cuts that traverse the pictorial composition act as disruptions, breaks, or shifts to which we are constantly exposed.
