PARADOX OF WILLNESS is a drawing on black paper created using mixed media. This work oscillates between realism and its deconstruction. The depiction of a figurative scene draws the viewer in through realistic elements, yet simultaneously dissolves them. This creates a play between visibility and invisibility, a give and take. The aim is to sharpen the viewer’s perception and break through the routine of our gaze.
I set papers treated with acrylic or ink in direct contrast to the drawing. Paper cuts which traverse the pictorial composition, represent its disruptions, breaks or shifts.
