Rue Custine traces the quiet tension between a supposed location in a city and human presence. Here, ambiguity is a structural principle of the work rather than an aesthetic device. The scene isolates a fragment of a contemporary city—a shuttered shopfront— and treats it as a site where existential uncertainty is made visible. The figure is neither heroic nor symbolic; they are simply caught in transit, suspended between movement and stasis. The apparently architectural context is rendered in soft colour to act less as a setting, and more as a condition that shapes perception. An interplay of clarity and indeterminacy produces a dissonance: the familiar becomes estranged, and the everyday acquires a quiet, unresolved charge. A perceptual dilemma.
