Unique
This work takes the form of a layered visual assemblage in which images of plantation landscapes, industrial infrastructures and family scenes are brought into a single field. Rather than representing a linear history, the work constructs a visual space in which the memory of exploitation of bodies and land is embedded within the material of latex itself. Ghost-like silhouettes of Vietnamese workers appear intermittently within the composition, as if retained within the surface of the image.
The work proposes latex as both subject and carrier of memory, where different temporal and historical layers remain suspended, partially visible and partially absorbed, within a fragmented structure. The bubbles formed within latex introduce a rhythmic, breath-like quality to the surface, suggesting a form of respiration that runs through the image. This subtle movement evokes the idea the past is not fixed but remains active within the present, continuing to affect and shape it.
