Mother and Child, 2025
Description
I create drawings in colour ballpoint pen that explore presence through absence. My work focuses on clothing and material as containers for identity. I use the negative space of the human form to convey who was there without fully revealing the figure. In this series, garments and posture carry the narrative. We can recognise a person, but what is missing draws you in further.
The use of a ballpoint pen, with its resistance to correction and slow, layered build-up, mirrors the emotional and psychological weight that I aim to project on paper. By
transforming something ordinary into a tool for slow, detailed observation, I reflect how even mundane moments hold depth and meaning. Viewers are not just observing but locating themselves within the image. Every line demands time and care, which becomes visible in the final piece.
I draw from quiet and everyday moments, especially in public spaces where people are absorbed in their own lives. These images speak to the ubiquity of habit and gesture. By omitting faces, I shift the focus to the intimacy of how humankind wears their world.
