Bryn McConnell | Looking Up, 2025

Textile

Description

Steal Mesh, wool, canvas, acrylic paint, thread

100 x 250 cm (Flat)

Crafted from materials and observations gathered while navigating the streets of Berlin, this piece comes as a step in the artist, Bryn McConnell’s, journey of moving to Berlin and becoming acquainted with a foreign city. Like many before her, McConnell arrived in Berlin with the dream to create, to seek perspective, and to gather confidence.

This art piece is about moving through the city with vigor and holding one's head up high. The painted squares represent windows in a building facade, reflecting pools of inspiration that can be found behind every corner. The imprecise and shifting grid nods to the patch-work nature of Berlin’s robust and ever evolving history. Together, this playful yet rigid material palette is indicative of this city’s “tough but sincere” character.
