ABOUT THE ARTIST

LIVES AND WORKS IN GERMANY
Ra Goel is a British photographer whose practice explores the psychological states that emerge during major life thresholds and transitions. Operating at the intersection of portraiture, landscape, and interior photography, Goel investigates the internal landscapes of the human experience. His work is deeply informed by philosophical inquiries into time and existence, seeking to visualize the subtle emotional shifts that define our journey through significant life changes.
In his current body of work, Goel examines the slow internal transformations that surface during midlife. Drawing on Henri Bergson’s concept of duration, the series captures moments where time appears to falter and the self hovers in an "in-between" state. Each image functions as a suspended pause, where the emotional sediment of the past presses against the present. Through a focus on the entanglement of presence and absence, Goel reveals an undercurrent of disquiet that lingers beneath the surface of the everyday, transforming domestic and natural spaces into vessels for psychological reflection.
Goel’s artistic development includes a background in Philosophy and Economics from the London School of Economics—a foundation that continues to influence the conceptual depth of his imagery. He has refined his visual language through specialized study, including a classical portraiture workshop with Todd Hido and reportage photography at Central Saint Martins. Currently based in southern Germany, Goel maintains an independent photographic practice alongside his professional background in the social impact sector, engaging in ongoing dialogues with established figures in the field to evolve his contemplative approach to the medium.
