PER SCHORN

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Per Schorn is a Frankfurt-based photographer born in 1978 in Essen, Germany. He discovered his passion for photography during a school project and toured Germany with the US punk band Ignite. He studied design in Darmstadt from 2003 to 2008, focusing on art photography under Kris Scholz, and has worked as a photo assistant for various renowned photographers.

Schorn's artistic approach is primarily rooted in staged photography, where he meticulously plans every detail of his sets to create a pristine environment for his subjects. However, in his latest series, At the Movies, he steps outside his comfort zone. Instead of constructed sets, he captures the spontaneous beauty of nighttime Los Angeles, where he found inspiration during casual strolls.

In this series, a solitary street lantern serves as the focal point, embodying themes of emotion, dreams, and solitude against the backdrop of the iconic violet sky reminiscent of the film La La Land. From this point of reference, he illustrates the notion that in Hollywood, movies are ubiquitous.

As a BFF Professional and member of the AOP, Schorn has received numerous accolades, including awards from Katapult, D&AD, and the Prix de la Photographie Paris. His work has been exhibited at notable festivals such as Darmstädter Tage der Fotografie and Photokina. In 2023, he was shortlisted for the BBA Awards and held a solo exhibition at Galerie Greulich.
