ABOUT THE ARTIST
BORN IN GERMANY
LIVES AND WORKS IN GERMANY
Julia Sossinka is a multidisciplinary visual artist who studied Fine Arts as a master student of Prof. Markus Lüpertz at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and currently lives and works in Berlin. She is an artist who always raises a question about the dimensions of organic structures, processes of growth, and painting extending beyond the confines of the canvas, based on immersive installations, painting, and paper collages.
Her latest practice, “Unfolding the Unknown,” is an exploration of rupture as a process of transformation. From her recent methodology—tearing painted paper, layering, and transforming discarded or unfinished pieces into dimensional shapes—the artist tries to bring paper back to our reality as a purely sculptural material. The simultaneous destruction and reconstruction of color-rich fragments are continuously confronted with the structural laws of nature. She describes her work as an immersive, sensory experience filled with vitality, where painterly forms step directly into the viewer's physical space. Her work is rooted in a fascination with open-ended, constantly evolving transitional states, merging a highly tactile richness of color within the form of a poetic deconstruction of surface and space.
Sossinka’s distinguished career is marked by international residency fellowships—including invitations to Switzerland, Greece, and France—and professional appointments to various public Art-in-Architecture expert juries. She regularly exhibits her work at prominent international art fairs and institutions, such as Art Karlsruhe, Paper Positions Berlin and Vienna, the San Francisco Art Fair, and the Lost Art Festival in Berlin.
