LIVES AND WORKS IN GERMANY
Jens Kloppmann is a visual artist born in Witten in 1969, who studied at Bauhaus University Weimar and the Kassel School of Art, and currently lives and works in Berlin. He is a multi-disciplinary artist who works across different media, always raising questions about historical memory, architecture, and social structures.
His latest practice, “The Real Estate Department,” is a sculptural investigation into post-war modernism and urban spaces. From his recent methodology—casting 1960s model railway houses in epoxy resin and preserving them in a manner similar to insects in scientific collections—the artist tries to bring the aesthetics of architectural models and real estate sales displays back to our reality. Stripped of streets, squares, or public open spaces, the modular arrangements are presented on individual pedestals. He describes his work as a variable installation that can be reconfigured depending on the spatial context, drawing attention to the artificial preservation of domestic typologies. His work is rooted in a critical engagement with monuments and collective narratives, merging conceptual object-making within the form of spatial and architectural inquiry.
Kloppmann is a member of the Association of Berlin Artists (VBK) and boasts an extensive exhibition history. He has been invited to solo and group exhibitions at prominent venues, including the Michaela Helfrich Gallery and the ARD Capital Studio in Berlin, the Museum Fridericianum in Kassel, as well as international institutions in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, the UK, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan.
