Katsutoshi Yuasa

About

Katsutoshi Yuasa (b. 1978, Japan) studied Fine Art at the Musashino Art University followed by MA Printmaking at the Royal College of Art, London. The artist explores the essence of photography in the discipline of printmaking. Ideas of sight, perception, memory and remembrance and the indirect expression of printmaking are at the core of his practice.

The artist regularly exhibits in solo and group exhibitions globally. Solo exhibitions include ‘Illuminate: Woodcuts by Katsutoshi Yuasa’ at Lawrence Art Center, Kansas in the US, as well as ‘Fragmentary’ at Gallery YUKI-SIS in Tokyo. Recent group exhibitions include ‘Two Artists in Residence Exhibition plus’ at Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Japan, and ‘The point of truth, beauty and knowledge’ at Künstlerhaus Dortmund in Germany.

Yuasa currently lives and works in Kanagawa prefecture, and he is a lecturer at Tama Art University. The artist has completed residencies at prestigious institutions such as Graphic Studio Dublin in Ireland, Cité Internationale des Arts in France and the Kala Art Institute in the US. His work can be found in prestigious public collections around the world, such as Laing Art Gallery, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Leipzig, New York Public Library and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
